Shoes For Crews Review + Giveaway

As a mother you find yourself on your feet sometimes most of the day. When I worked at the hospital I was up on my feet 8 hours a day! I do not feel like I am on my feet as much as that but when I am it is going on walks with my daughter, taking to her to the playground, going on errands and doing work around the house.

I have always been flat-footed and it has been a pain in my behind for a long time. I wore inserts for a year and it only proved to be uncomfortable. I searched high and low for comfortable shoes. I was told that the flatter the shoe the better it would be for my flat foot. Seemed strange.

When I was asked by Shoes For Crews to try one pair of their shoes I decided I would be a good fit to try one of their slip-resistant shoes. Even though I work from home AND take care of my baby, I know I had to find a good-looking shoe I could wear inside and out of home.

I searched through the women's category and noticed that there were A LOT of options for stylish footwear and well as athletic, casual, dressy, work boots and clogs.

WOW! While I was very tempted to try a pair a pair of clogs, I decided to would try a completely close-toed shoe that would be perfect even in the winter.

I decided to try one of their newer styles that seemed stylish and easy to wear with casual clothing. I chose the Daphne style, which is a full-grain leather shoe with cushioned insoles (perfect!), adjustable Velcro straps and a steel shank for support.

I wore these with socks and without socks and the comfort was equally great! While these were in the "stylish" category it was not the MOST gorgeous shoe. It is definitely something to wear with jeans and would be great on walks.

If I still worked at the hospital I would wear these with my scrubs because these are for-sure comfortable. The size of the shoe was definitely perfect with the same size shoe I wear on a regular basis.Another beautiful thing about this company is that if you order something and it does not fit, you do not like or just want to try something else, they have a 60-day wear and compare guarantee for FREE!

Would you like to try a pair or do you have someone that complains of foot pain because they have not found the right shoe? The company has generously provided a coupon code for ONE reader to win a pair of ANY shoe of choice.

Fashion Friday: Séraphine Maternity Review

Happy Friday to all! Anyone excited about the impending hurricane about to hit the east coast? Yeah, I did not think so. So strange that we have to be thinking about that and not about some snow storm.

I have heard and seen pictures of snow in Utah and way north but all I see in our parts is rain and more rain. I'll take it, just give me a little more cooler weather, but no ice. Thank you. Oh that was a prayer to God. :-)

So good news, I have at least three opera-related events I get to be a part of in the next couple of weeks. This is, after all, a website called Opera Singer in the Kitchen, right? It has been a tough transition not being to perform as much but I know it is for a season and I will take what I can.

I get to sing the Alleluia section of Mozart's Exsulate Jubilate this coming Sunday for Reformation Sunday at our church so I am really excited and well a little nervous since I have not been singing as much with THIS pregnancy as I had been being pregnant with Julianne. I leave it in God's hands because I sing it unto him. It gives me great joy singing and I love practicing in front of Julianne too. She lights up! :-)

Not to be vain or anything, but I AM continuing my Fashion Friday theme with a review of a lovely maternity  called Séraphine Maternity. They are largely known in London and in Paris but are quickly growing in popularity in boutique shops in the US.

This company was founded by Parisian designer and stylist Cecile Reinaud and has grown in popularity with Hollowood starts for their elegant sense of style and the quality of design for pregnant women. Nice to know that they are now a world leading maternity fashion brand even after celebrating 10 years in the business.

I was able to try this beautiful knot dress in purple, my new favorite color. I ordered it in size 12 and I had to wait a few weeks, close to my 6 month mark to wear this dress because it felt big. I believe the sizes run a little bigger than usual so I would have gone with a size 10. The dress will probably fit better closer to my due date.

Even so, I received SO many compliments with this dress. Not only was the dress color attractive but the flow and fit of the dress was very comfortable. The great thing about this jersey dress is that I will be able to wear this as nursing dress too! It did have a bit of a plunging neck line so I for church I felt like I needed a safety pin to make sure I did not flash anyone. I then realized that the dress just needed to be adjusted. It felt wonderful!

You have a chance to try anything from this company because they are running a mid-season sale up to 50% off! I just purchased a lovely top that I will be showing off soon. Don't wait too long because this sale does not last for too long.

On top of this, you can get free shipping! Use the code SVKFD at checkout to get free delivery. What a deal!  Thanks Séraphine for letting me try this chic dress!

Little Green Pouch Review

I am so excited to share a wonderful product that I got to try. Even though the patent is pending I cannot believe I got to try this product! Even before I knew about this company I was a bit frustrated with the fact that there were no reusable pouches available. I felt really bad that I had to continue throwing away food packets.

Lo and behold I found out this company, Little Green Pouch, was coming out with a reusable pouch to fill with food and here I was planning on making my own small fortune. Boo. No really. I am so excited that someone came up with this idea because it is ECO-FRIENDLY and wonderful for a growing baby.

I know that lots of people have seen that I started out my baby eating cut up foods along with purees but in the last month or so I have had a VERY picky eater.

Julianne has only wanted to eat fruit cut up in pieces along with some Cheerios but when it came to veggies and even beans, it was a huge negative.

I had to go back to purees and rightly so since it is important for my baby to have a well-rounded diet. I want her rosy-cheeked! Well the bowl I show above has no veggies but it is something I started out with when filling these green pouches.

Julianne loves cream of wheat and oatmeal and instead of spoon-feeding her, I pour the cereal in the pouch and allow her to feed herself. I am a work-at-home mommy and I start way early in the morning so I need all the extra time I need to put in the hours that are expected of me. Having Julianne feed herself is wonderful and makes her independent.

While she has not quite captured squeezing the pouch, she grasps it with a mighty strength. She knows how to suck her food and she gulps it like mad, as though she is starving! The beautiful part of this is that she is super familiar with how this reusable food pouch works.

She takes one look at me coming from the kitchen with the pouch in hand and she starts flailing her little arms asking me to give her the pouch. Gulp Gulp  Slurp Slurp Guzzle Guzzle and the food is gone.

She caught on to me though, she knew I tried to put in a veggie puree and still rejected it. Well I am trying to make the right mixtures but this baby works with yogurt, cereal, and I am going to try smoothies next. How exciting!!

Check out the website on the back of each pouch. You can label each pouch with your baby's name if you are leaving it with a caregiver or nursery. Each pouch comes with a reusable cap and the opening of each pouch acts like a ziplock bag.

You CANNOT microwave the bag but if you prepare foods ahead of time, the pouch can be warmed in a bowl of warm water. WORKS!

I was afraid of misplacing my caps but if I do the website sells more!

Check out how I fill the pouch with cereal. I used a spoon the first time and it was a bit messy.

It fits about 6 ounces of food. It works much better if you use a funnel or a glass pyrex measuring cup.

Seal the pouch and hand over to your baby or toddler. You can start using these as early as 4 months too!

I am totally sold on these and well, they travel really well. They are perfect at restaurants and outings. It keeps Julianne entertained too.

You really cannot go wrong with this company. For $14 you get 4 reusable pouches. Imagine each already prepared food pouch in the store costing almost $1.25 each. You are saving on waste and you can give your child your own foods and have them prepared on-the-go and ready-to-go!

Check out Little Green Pouch on their website and order these pouches and even more accessories and even recipes for your babies! Like them on Facebook for fun contests and even news about the company. They do have a contest running now through November 11th where you can post a video using these pouches. Have fun!

KeVita Sparkling Probiotic Drink Review + Giveaway

Good morning! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Ours went by too fast, as usual, but it was a gorgeous one so we tried to soak it in. We had my sister and brother-in-law come in this weekend from Texas, so that was a treat. It will be nice to have family and company in the house.

Today I decided to start with a refreshing review. I had heard a lot about KeVita in the past months but had not the opportunity to taste it. It was interesting trying to locate some close to where I lived. Luckily I knew a Whole Foods would carry this product even though it was close to 30 minutes away.

These drinks are super delicious and refreshing. They are full of flavor, bubbly fizz and and super healthy for your gut. KeVita makes their own probiotic culture and they combine it with either coconut water, tea, or pure water along with fruit purees and/or plant extracts.

What is another plus about this product? It is a low calorie, vegan, gluten-, soy-, lactose-, and GMO free product. Some people have issues with every category so this would be such a beneficial and healthy drink.

If you know anything about me, it is this: I love all things coconut! Coconut water is amazing but make it bubbly with healthier benefits plus awesome flavors? Sign me up!

I was able to try 4 flavors out of the 8 that the company makes.Coconut, Mango Coconut, Pomegranate, and Strawberry Acai (not pictured). Oh my word! These were so delicious it is hard not having more than one of these 16 ounce bottles a day. I need to stock up a little refrigerator with these babies. So refreshing and flavorful.

My favorite of the 4 flavors I got to choose was the Pomegranate but I cannot wait to try the other 4 flavors. If you are interested in knowing MORE about this company and who it benefits  check out their FAQ page. It is very informative.

Are you interested in trying these? Here is a giveaway for US readers. Two people will have the opportunity to try these three of these drinks. Sign up now! Good luck!

Fashion Friday: Cocktail Attire Maternity Style

I found out this past week that my hubby and I will be attending a fundraising event for future opera performances for a future company. I will be reviewing the event in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime I thought that I would ask for help and opinions for this Fashion Friday. I am just happy I was able to put this together for today!

So it the event is a masquerade or masked ball event with masks being provided. It is black tie / cocktail dress attire so it is obviously dressy. In August I could have fit in my pre-pregnancy formal dresses but crazy enough my tummy has really expanded the last few months. It is true what they say, that once you have one baby it does not take a long time for your pregnant tummy to show. (boo)

What does this mean? I only have FEW options. I have created 3 boards with similar dresses that I own. What do YOU think would be appropriate or what would you choose?

Option ONE

Cocktail party

Option TWO

Cocktail Maternity

Option THREE

Cocktail Attire for Masked Ball

SO let me know what option you think I should go with. I have started being SO indecisive that this requires major help! Thanks for the Friday opinions and have a great weekend.

Vegan Pumpkin Spice French Toast

DSC_2114

I decided that we needed something different for breakfast besides our normal eggs and toast. Yesterday I received a nice shipment from So Delicious coconut milk products with one of their new products. I could not wait to try a glass of Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk. Ever since they came out with the Coconut Mil Nog, I have been quite smitten.

Anyone like the Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks? I am not a fan and that is because it is probably made with soy milk. I know their drink is not vegan but somehow the flavors are not my favorite.

Vegan Pumpkin French Toast

This Pumpkin Spice coconut milk is SO GOOD! I could not wait to make this recipe and share it with you. I made an Coconut Milk Nog French Toast last year that was great too. That recipe was located on the carton.

This year I had to make my own using pumpkin everything. My hubby should be happy because I have not gone quite pumpkin crazy as I did last year but I still have time! :-) This recipe was SO quick to make and prepare. You really do not need the eggs. It is quite custardy and flavorful with the vegan ingredients.

DSC_2106

I cannot wait to put this milk in my coffee! I have to cherish this quart cause I do not know if my local stores are carrying it yet. Be on the look out because this IS a NEW flavor. You have to try it. I am looking forward trying my hand at another recipe soon.

DSC_2104

Are these not beautiful? These are perfect for a brunch. Julianne, my almost year old baby, loved them and it was a nice break from her cream of wheat / oatmeal breakfast. She scarfed down two of these babies! Such an appetite.

I hope you take time to enjoy this recipe tomorrow, later today, or even this weekend.

What are your favorite pumpkin recipes for BREAKFAST?

Vegan Pumpkin Spice French Toast

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10-15 minnutes

Ingredients (4 servings)
  • 1 1/2 cups So Delicious Pumpkin Spice coconut milk
  • 2 small ripe bananas
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 Tablespoon flax seed meal
  • 4 Tablespoons pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin spice (optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
  • 12 slices whole wheat bread
Instructions
Blend the coconut milk, bananas, flax seed meal, spices, maple syrup, and vanilla extract and pour into a pie plate or shallow dish.

Heat a griddle to 350 degrees and melt a bit of butter.

Dip each slice of bread and allow each slice to soak a bit of milk. My bread slices were small. Add each slice to the griddle and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Serve with crushed walnuts or pecans and a little maple syrup and a cup of pumpkin spice coffee.

Philadelphia Food and Wine Festival Review

What did you do this weekend?

Saturday we ventured out 30 minutes from where we live to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center to experience the Food and Wine Festival for 2012. We arrived at 12:00-12:15 and boy, did we meet a crowd. D'uh! It was lunch time and what better time to visit food booths and drink some wine.

Nope! Do not worry, I did not partake of the wine, but Ryan attended as well so he enjoyed some samples here and there. We were able to skip the LONG line because I was able to attend as PRESS in order to review this event. It felt pretty cool I must say, ;-)

The entrance fee was $45 per person which included all the food, wine and spirit tastings. As we entered the building we received our own wine glass with the festival name on it. As we entered and saw the long lines to taste food samples we realized how WRONG it was to attend this hungry. We should have had a light lunch to prepare for it.

We did attend with our 11.5 month old so the stroller proved to be a bit challenging but we were not the only young families attending. We perused lots of booths quickly and realized that some businesses were "selling" their food products. This was VERY misleading because it was not a sample and we did not get to taste what that company made unless you paid for it. Granted, it we were regular attendees, we would have paid $45 for the said food samples.

Ryan and I split a $6 sandwich from one of the booths. We were so hungry and so was Julianne so we decided to sit within the 30 minutes we had arrived and eat. Julianne was NOT interested in my gourmet puree I had prepared for her.

The sandwich was, of course, a snack split between the two of us but it was enough to hold us over to get through the LONG lines. The gourmet sandwich was a breaded chicken, broccoli rabe, and red pepper sandwich. Unfortunately I do not know what restaurant it came from.

As we continued moving through the building we were able to taste some Orzo with Pesto and clam chowder. The clam chowder was probably the largest sample of the place. Very generous helpings. I found out that their restaurant is located in the King of Prussia mall. Yum!

As I got to one certain booth I realized that I had tasted some delicious Italian food prepared by Maria Bello's mom, Kath. :-)  She had prepared a feast of samples and everyone was enjoying it. She was also selling her cookbook too!

We were able to sit a bit and watch a few food demonstrations, but I wished I had been able to stay for more but the crowds were just a bit overwhelming.

Another delicious sample was from the Avocados from Mexico. They had a delicious pineapple guacamole that was tangy and unique. I must make that soon. Let me list the other samples we tasted:
  • Shredded Duck
  • mini crab cakes
  • smoked salmon canape'
  • fair trade coffee
  • pretzels
  • hemp food products
  • veggie ravioli
Yes, sounds like a lot and I expected more, but the rest of the booths were either beer, spirits, or wine booths with a another set of booths being name brand products. Vitamix was there along with several cutlery brands. There were 5-7 olive oil tasting booths. There can only be so much of bread dipping.

I DID leave with a 5 slabs of nice smelling soaps made with olive oil and coconut oil so let me just say that this was an example of a non-food item being sold at the festival.

All in all we stayed 2 1/2 hours and that was without standing in many of the wine lines. Ryan said it was not worth it. There was much confusion from several people as to why there were lines. It just did not seem like it was too organized. While we enjoyed the experience we really expected there to be a lot more food tastings from restaurants. There was one place that was serving half a pinky size of a sample which was hardly enough to experience said product.

Julianne enjoyed herself and many people commented how great she seemed to acting. After a few hours we realized we had to eat an early dinner. Thank you to the folks at the festival for letting us attend and enjoy this unique event. As we left the lines were still SUPER long. More restaurants need to be a part of this next year!
